Martial arts psychology for modern reality based self defense

If you only train against a heavy bag, or practice & rehearse

self defense drills in a mcdojo, or are being trained by an arm

chair instructor with no real fight experience your in trouble!

Now listen this is very crucial for all the information you know

and all your hard work and training. You need to purchase a

martial artshelmet, and 16 oz open hand mma gloves, find a

park with a training partner and get out there and practice

fighting thru sparring exercises!

You need to feel the stress and pressure of engaging an

opponent, feel the pain of being hit, feel the stress of having

fists and kicks flying at you, I even recommend sparring with

no gloves or helmets once you and your partner are good.

You may have all my self defense and fighting tips memorized

and I commend you for it, but if you don't have any experience

of being hit, timing, speed, range of motion, and actual fighting

experience you could end up dead after a street attack.

You need to be able to be calm and relaxed while you are

having fists hitting your wrists, punching your face, being

grabbed and attacked. The only way you can develop this

sense of calm is thru experience only.

Continue studying and training in your martial art and do sparring

and practicing combat with a partner, safety gear and raw

aggression. It will enhance your performance at minimum

a 110%

Ghost ride the whip video production

Ghost Riding the Whip is something that just happens. I mean you might just happen to be there somewhere with some friends and do some ghost riding and someone just might be there with something that records video and then what ever it looks like, you post it for people over the world to see. That is cool I admit.

On the other hand if you plan your video production it will turn out much more polished and be even more interesting to watch. I have had video on my web sites for years so I like the idea.

I guess the worse idea is Cell Phone Video. You can spot that video immediately. They are very fuzzy, especially at night, and the sound in unclear.

The best video comes from a DVR or digital video recorder. These record either on tape or on disk. I have a Sony and it takes beautiful video. If you don't have one then borrow one from someone that does. They hook up with a firewire to the computer with a bit of software of 1000 different varieties.

These cameras have a steadiness filter built in but it does not help a heck of a lot. So what next? A tripod. I have to admit they are a tremendous help when it comes to steadying the camera. Instead of looking like an earthquake it is more TV production like. The better ones come with an oil damped head. Makes moving the camera smooth and non jerky.

So what else helps? That's easy. I have found that rehearsal is great. I record everything the first time and then look at it in the camera video screen and say to myself "What can I do that would look better and more interesting to the people out there" Then I do it over again. I usually have to do that 4 times to get it pretty close to what I want the finished product to look like. Pretty hard thing to do While Ghost Riding the Whip I suppose. Especially if everyone is in a good mood.

Last but not the least is the editing department. There are a lot of editing programs out there to make your finished video stand out from the crowd . I use Sony Screen Blast Movie Studio. You can piece together all of your video bits. Add Titles and THE END frames. Quiet down the video and add music and sound effects. You can also shrink the size to get the video down to something that won't take 20 minuets to download.

Remember safety is a must. No matter what, be safe. Falling off the hood and getting run over won't feel cool. And I don't want to see it on the internet.

Coaching the candle burners

Have you ever had one of those moments where it seems as if everything is chaotic one moment and in slow motion the next? In those moments there seems to be either a rushing sound in your ears or perhaps a ringing. Color fades to black and white and you can almost seem disassociated from the events that are happening around you.

Sometimes this can be experienced when you are faced with bad news, sleep deprivation or extreme weariness where you teeter precariously between apathy and physical exhaustion.

There is an expression we all use that is applicable to this malady. This expression is, “Don’t burn a candle at both ends.”

The phrase means that we should find a balance in our lives because if we don’t we will either try to work too hard or enjoy life too much devoid of the assumption of adequate responsibility. Either of these extremes may not be a healthy approach to life.

In business this phenomenon can be noticed when we don’t take the time to experience life apart from the business.

The scenario goes something like this….

A burst of activity takes place in the business-planning phase.

This activity is followed by another burst of activity in product acquisition and site design.

This is followed by working on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) strategies and Internet marketing.

This is followed by extensive networking to develop quality connections and the potential for backlinks for improve site ranking performance.

This is followed by __________ (fill in the blank).

Which is followed by __________ (fill in the blank).

And then ____________ (fill in the blank).

The original idea of burning a candle at both ends goes back to the 18th century practice of candle making. If you were to burn a candle at both ends it would mean the candle would be placed in a horizontal position instead of vertical with wicks burning at both ends. This type of candle might supply improved light, but the wax would drip and the wick would burn quickly causing the entire candle to become worthless in a very short period of time while leaving a mess behind in a darkened room.

This is the picture of a person who does not recognize or take time to recharge and renew. They are quick to say something like, “It’s better to burn out than rust out,” and they are getting close to their objective every day. Inch by inch their candle is consumed and they suffer burnout, chronic fatigue or worse.

It is possible to expend bursts of activity that exceed your typical capacity, but the prolonged push to over perform can render the individual ineffective and without passion for the very thing they thought they wanted to do most.

There is another saying, “All work and no play make Jack a dull boy.”

We are all designed with the need for refreshment and relaxation. Find a way to make that happen in your business efforts and expect to see a better long-term output in productivity and energy.

Play pai gow

Pai Gow is a fun Westernized version of an old Chinese dominos game. The basic game play is straightforward enough and it is popular in casinos because the relaxed atmosphere of the game gives players a chance to get to know each other.

Each of the seven players places a bet and are then dealt seven cards each. In addition to the 52 cards in the pack there is a joker that can be used either as an ace or to complete a straight or a flush. Players must form the cards into two hands, a five card hand and a two card hand. The hands themselves are almost exactly the same as those in poker. One player acts as banker although often the default is the dealer. Incidentally, seven hands are always dealt out even if there are less players at the table.

The object of the game is to beat both the banker's five card hand and two card hand. If you only beat one of the banker's hands then it is a tie, called a copy, and the banker wins the hand. In many online casino's the casino is always the banker, but you should check this and always try to be banker if possible because of course it means you can win any copy hands.

The real strategy in Pai Gow is knowing how best to arrange your cards so that you have the strongest hand. Putting cards into your five card hand is known as 'five-carding' and likewise, putting cards into your two card hand is called 'two-carding'.

You do not always want to put all of your strongest cards into either your five-hand or your two-hand if it means weakening the other hand too much. Most of the time it should be apparent what is the best way to arrange your cards but there are some common mistakes made.

The most frequent mistakes occur when players have two pairs. The best way to divide up or unite your pairs depends on the cards that you have. You will usually want to split the pairs by two-carding the lower pair if you have a paid of aces or your lower pair is made up of cards worth 10 or more.

There are however exceptions to this rule and here are some of the more notable circumstances when you want to play your pairs together in the five-hand:If your high pair is 3s to 6s and you have an ace, kind, or queen, then five-card your pairs play the high single card in your two-hand.

If your pairs are 6s to 9s and you have an ace or a king then you should also five-card your pairs. Finally, if your high pair is 10s to queens and you have an ace then you should also five-card your pairs and two card your ace. In all other circumstances you should five-card you high pair and play the low pair in your two-hand.

Alternative to rat poison

Mechanical rat traps are one possible alternative to poisons; another alternative is to buy a cat, although cats capable of dealing with rats are relatively rare; in many cultures, hunting dogs have been used instead. Both of these methods have a disadvantage of being comparatively messy, a particular problem when the building with a rat problem is to be uninhabited for some months. Anticoagulants have the advantage that their first effect is dehydration from blood loss, causing the unfortunate rodent to leave the building in search of water.

Newer rodenticides have been developed to work with by reducing the sperm count in males to deprive them of the ability to procreate rather than to kill rodents outright. They are usually administered in the breeding seasons of most rodents.

ABOUT THOSE SERINE PROTEASES:

Clotting factors are identified by number and the serine proteases (also called K-dependent factors for reasons which are about to become clear) are factors II, VII, IX, and X. These factors are produced in an inactive state by the liver and go happily circulating through the bloodstream awaiting activation. When a vessel tears and it becomes necessary to form a clot, these factors are activated in a process that requires Vitamin K (a fat soluble vitamin not as famous as its fat-soluble cousins Vitamins A and E). As the clotting factors are activated, Vitamin K is inactivated but later recycled by another set of enzymes to be ready to participate in clotting factor activation again later.

As long as there is plenty of Vitamin K, the serine proteases can be activated and clotting can proceed normally.

The anticoagulant rodenticides abolish Vitamin K recycling. This means that as soon as one’s active Vitamin K reserves are depleted, there can be no meaningful blood clotting.

In cases of poisoning one would expect symptoms to be nearly immediate but in the case of anticoagulant rodenticide poisoning, it takes several days to deplete Vitamin K. After that, even the smallest of jostles and traumas can lead to life-threatening bleeds.

What is seo

SEO - Search Engine Optimisation. Over the last ten years SE's (Search Engines) have become an ever increasing important factor in business promotion. The four major SE's generate in excess of 700 million search queries a day, an outstanding fact that really emphasises the importance of utilising the potential reach of the Search Engine.

Over 75% of people now use the internet when looking to buy a product or service. Websites in the top 3 pages of the major search engines gain 90% of search engine traffic. Basically, if you have a website you need to be on the first few pages of the SERP's (Search Engine Results Pages) to get the traffic. so how do you do this?.......... Its not quite as simple as many people believe. I am constantly being asked " I have just had a website built but do not appear on Google." Well firstly type in the URL (web address) of your website, if you still do not come up then your site has not been indexed. If your website does appear then previously when you said "I do not appear in Google" what you meant is - you typed in a keyword (a word related to your product/service) and your website did not appear in the top few pages. To be honest, this is very unlikely to happen. Unless you are selling a very unique product with very little competition then your website is likely to be on page 23 or worse!

Everybody with a website would love to be #1 on google for their main keyword, but it takes time and effort. You need to optimise your website for the best chances of achieving this.

After crawling the internet using robots called "spiders", the SE's use a complex mathematical formula to "rank" websites on importance and relevance to certain keywords. These formulas are known as "algorithms". SEO describes the techniques that use a knowledge of how SE's rank websites, to make alterations to a site so that it better "adheres" to the "algorithms".

There are to main phases to the optimisation process - "on page" and "off page". On page is the alterations that are made to the physical content of a website and the code that makes up each webpage. This includes intergrating keywords into areas of the site that the SE's deem important. Off page optimisation is the process of building links to a website...... what this means is getting as many websites to have a link somewhere on their site to the site you are optimising. This is very important because a major part of SE's "algorithms" is link popularity - the more websites that link to another, the more important it is considered by the SE's and the higher up it appears in the SERP's.

Of course there are many more technical issues involved with Search Engine Optimisation but i wont discuss these in this article.. One thing that you should remeber though when thinking about SEO is that it certainly is not instant. Due to the way search engines work it may be several months before the friuts of your labour are seen, in the form of higher rankings. Google currently indexes over 8 billion web pages and the ever increasing size of the internet means that the SE's certainly have their work cut out.

Many companies manage their own SEO in house, this can work fine but be willing to put in the time to learn the technicalities. The "nity gritty" of it can be slighly overwhelming as it is quite a specialist, technical field.

Tai chi

Tai Chi

The answer to this question lies in another question, “What are you looking for?”

If you are not happy with any area of your life today, then Tai Chi can help you.

I have been studying and teaching the tai chi Health Arts for over twenty years. During this time I have learnt that the answer to all questions lies within each of us.

The above may sound like a bold statement, yet it is based on facts handed down over the centuries. Because of the vast variety of benefits available to everyone who practises tai chi ,

many articles have been written on the subject. The majority of the articles shroud the understanding of the art of Tai Chi in mystery. Today, Western Medicine is acknowledging that Tai Chi can help many ailments and recently an article appeared in the national newspapers claiming that doctors agreed that Tai Chi worked but they couldn't explain how.

I would like to share with you my own understanding of Tai Chi which is taught purely for health and is based on the principles of Chinese Medicine.

Your own body's internal energy (Chi energy), plays a vital role in the quality of your health. Chi energy is with you from the day you are born until the day you die. A person with a highly developed Chi energy through practicing Tai Chi experiences very few illnesses. That is what we are all working towards.

Most of us understand how our blood flows through our body and have a basic understanding of how our organs work.

Did you know that a person with highly volatile emotions, often has stagnation in the liver and gallbladder? The stagnation I am talking about is the stagnation of your Chi energy. This is because the flow of your body's internal energy is not moving freely around your body and nourishing your organs properly. My late master used to say ‘If you lose your temper or raise your voice you are ill.'

The movements of the Tai Chi Form start to work on the development of your internal energy (Chi) from your very first lesson.

Our movements are simple to perform and once learnt and practised regularly, the health benefits will last you a lifetime.

Our Tai Chi Chuan Form provides the foundations upon which all the other aspects of our arts are based. It is the starting point of training, for all those wishing to improve the quality of their health.

To progress in any area of your life, your mind needs to be calm. If you are tense ideas will not flow freely and you will find the act of daily living a strain.

Because we teach these traditional movements in a modern way, you will find that your mind becomes calm, as you learn the mechanics, your balance and co-ordination will also improve. This is because your mind is pleasantly occupied with the constant repetition of trying to perfect the simple movements

Another vital aspect of our Arts is correct breathing, yet most of us go through our lives without even giving it a second thought. When I was at school I was taught to breathe in and pull everything in. If we analyse what is actually happening to the lungs when you use this type of breathing you will find that only the upper part of the lungs are being used.

This allows toxins to form and build up in the lower part of the lungs. If you watch a baby breathing you will notice that there stomach appears to expand as they breathe in and contract as they breathe out, this type of breathing allows the whole of the lungs to be used correctly.

When your lungs are working correctly, this helps the rest of your body to work efficiently, your blood will flow freely and your body's natural energy (Chi) will move around your body; taking care of your inner well being.

You will also find that your mind is more alert and ideas flow easily to you, providing solutions to areas of your life which may be causing you strain. People who suffer from breath related ailments such as asthma have found great benefit from practising Tai Chi .

Because the movements of Tai Chi Chuan are gentle and practised without strain they are suitable for everyone. We encourage people to progress at their own pace.

Remember if you are feeling under pressure in any area of your life today, your mind, body and spirit are not in complete harmony.

The movements we teach work, they have helped many people suffering from ailments such as arthritis, asthma, back pain, cancer...

balance, circulation, knee problems, low fertility, heart problems, hip problems, high blood pressure, low blood pressure, insomnia, neck problems, M. E. M. S. shoulder problems, thyroid, stress and many more. These ailments will be covered in greater depth in future articles.

The subject of the Tai Chi is vast and the knowledge and information I have to share with you has already helped many people. I have many written testimonials from people who have already reaped the benefits of practising Tai Chi.
